Clive Barnes, Longtime New York Drama and Dance Critic, Dies at 81

Clive Barnes, who covered the New York theatre and dance worlds for four decades, first as a critic for The New York Times and then for the New York Post, died Nov. 19. He was 81 and had been filing reviews with the Post until only recently.
Michael Higgins, Obie-Winning Actor, Dies at 88

Michael Higgins, who performed on Broadway and Off-Broadway stages from the 1940s to the 1980s, winning two Obie Awards in the process, died Nov. 5 in Manhattan, where he lived.

Yma Sumac, Unusual Peruvian-Born Singer Who Appeared in Flahooley, Dies at 86
03 Nov 2008 -- Yma Sumac, the improbable singing star of the 1950s who claimed to possess a five-octave vocal range and ancestors who could be traced back to the Incas, died Nov. 1 at an assisted-living home in Los Angeles after an eight-month bout with colon cancer. She was 86.
Studs Terkel, Master Storyteller and Inspiration of Stage Works, Dies at 96
01 Nov 2008 -- Studs Terkel, the journalist and radio host who used interviews with ordinary people to explore some of the central tenets of the American character, died Friday at home in his beloved native city, Chicago. He was 96.
