Tony nominee Alan Campbell and Bob Stillman read the new musical Fables from the Lunar Bin as part of the York Theatre Company's Developmental Reading Series Nov. 3.
Fables from the Lunar Bin, the first of the two latest free readings to get underway, is presented at 7:30 PM at the York. The musical features a book by Alfa-Betty Olsen and Marshall Efron (based on their book, "Sin City Fables"), with music by Simon Wallace and lyrics by Fran Landesman.
Stuart Ross, who staged the York's acclaimed production of Enter Laughing, directs a cast that features Campbell (Sunset Boulevard), Stillman (Grey Gardens), as well as June Gable (Candide), Garth Kravitz (The Drowsy Chaperone), Gina Milo (Les Misérables), Susan Mosher (Hairspray) and David Rasche (To Be or Not to Be).
According to the York "Fables from the Lunar Bin is a hilarious revue complete with sketches, songs, and an impossible love story. Set on a city street, The Woman in the Moon looks down on her city and calls it The Lunar Bin. The people who live there tell the stories of their lives… and everybody's story has a moral and a happy ending, you just have to look at it the right way. Love – sacred, profane, successful or foolish – is celebrated, and even The Woman in the Moon is tempted."
On Nov. 19 and 20 at 3 PM, Gabriel Barre will direct the York reading of Boynton Beach Club, featuring a book by Susan Seidelman, with music by Ned Paul Ginsburg and lyrics by Michael Colby.
The cast of stage veterans includes four-time Tony nominee Tovah Feldshuh (Irena's Vow), Heather MacRae (A Catered Affair), Tim Shew (Bye Bye Birdie), as well as Tyrone Aiken, Adinah Alexander (The Wedding Singer), Bethe Austin, Joan Barber (Follies), Stephen Berger (The Pajama Game), Susan Bigelow (Footloose), Jerold Goldstein (How to Succeed…), Jeff Keller (The Phantom of the Opera) and Cheryl Stern (The Women).
York press notes read: "Visit sunny Florida and join the surprisingly sexy and often hilarious members of the Boynton Beach community, who demonstrate that life after 50 isn't what it used to be. Boynton Beach Club is a funny, tuneful and poignant musical about aging Baby Boomers who overcome life's sorrows and dive back into the dating pool."
Reservations are required for the free readings. To reserve a seat phone (212) 935-5824, ext. 24. The York Theatre Company's Theatre at St. Peters is located on 54th Street, east of Lexington Avenue.
