Right before the curtain was raised at the Belasco Nov. 17 on the third Broadway production of American Buffalo, a sonorous voice filled the theatre, announcing that the author of the evening's entertainment, "David Mamet, requests that you turn off your f______' cellphones." It got a laugh that wouldn't have been there 33 years ago.
