Here is a survey of upcoming and recent cast album releases (and significant Broadway-related recordings).

FORTHCOMING

Wicked (5th Anniversary Edition)

  • Release: Oct. 28
  • Label: Decca Broadway
  • Writers: music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz.
  • Performers: Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth, LeAnn Rimes, Delta Goodrem, and more.
  • Miscellaneous: In addition to the original cast recording, this Fifth Anniversary edition will include a second CD that features pop, remixed and foreign language versions of songs from the show as well as a song cut from the show.

Reefer Madness
  • Release: Oct. 28
  • Label: Ghostlight
  • Writers: music by Kevin Murphy and lyrics by Dan Studney.
  • Performers: The original London cast and the TV movie cast, including Christian Campbell, Kristen Bell, and Alan Cumming.
  • Miscellaneous: This 2 CD set will include both a live recording of the original London cast and the TV movie soundtrack.

Dear Edwina
  • Release: Nov. 11
  • Label: PS Classics
  • Writers: music by Zina Goldrich and lyrics by Marcy Heisler.
  • Performers: Rebecca Luker, Danny Burstein, Terrence Mann, Andrea Burns, Jeff Blumenkrantz, and Telly Leung.
  • Miscellaneous: This world premiere CD was recorded Sept. 25.

The Marvelous Wonderettes (2008 Original Off-Broadway Cast)
  • Release: Nov. 11
  • Label: PS Classics
  • Writers: various.
  • Performers: Farah Alvin, Beth Malone, Bets Malone and Victoria Matlock.
  • Miscellaneous: The album was recorded Sept. 18.

The Glorious Ones

  • Miscellaneous: This is the American release of the London cast recording.

Panhandle Slim & The Oklahoma Kid
  • Label: Ghostlight
  • Writers: music and lyrics by Jeff Daniels.
  • Performers: Jessica Garrett, Phil Powers, John Seibert, Tom Whalen and Jeff Daniels.
  • Miscellaneous: The album features cast performances of six songs and one traditional hymn as well as original demo recordings (performed by Jeff Daniels) and commentary.

Little Fish
  • Release: Sept. 9
  • Label: Ghostlight
  • Writers: music and lyrics by Michael John LaChiusa.
  • Performers: Alice Ripley, Chad Kimball, Gregory Jbara and the 2007 Blank Theatre cast.
  • Miscellaneous: The album was recorded Nov. 12, 2007.

Gypsy (2008 Broadway Revival)
  • Release: August 24
  • Label: Time Life Records
  • Writers: music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
  • Performers: Patti LuPone, Laura Benanti, Boyd Gaines and the 2008 Broadway revival cast.
  • Miscellaneous: recording will boast several songs cut from the original Broadway production: "Three Wishes for Christmas," "Mama's Talkin' Soft," "Nice She Ain't," "Mother's Day," "Smile, Girls," "Who Needs Him?," and an alternate version of "Mother's Day," all featuring new orchestrations penned by Jonathan Tunick.

The Body Beautiful (2007 Off-Broadway Cast)
  • Release: Sept. 22
  • Label: Original Cast Records
  • Writers: music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick.
  • Performers: Cady Huffman, Megan Lawrence and the 2007 York Theatre cast.

In the Heights
  • Release: June 3

  • Writers: music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
  • Performers: Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mandy Gonzalez, Andréa Burns, Karen Olivo, Christopher Jackson, Priscilla Lopez, Robin De Jesús and the 2008 Broadway cast.
  • Miscellaneous: The 2 disk CD will be recorded March 23-24.

South Pacific (2008 Broadway Cast)
